KKHS Driver Education

Driver Education Course

The driver education course is offered in Fall and Spring and consists of two parts. Part A: 36 hours of AAA classroom curriculum which you will complete online. Part B: NHSTSA and ADTSEA- approved Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) instruction. You will complete 6 BTW sessions with a Maui High Instructor.





Supervised Driving-Time

Students must complete 50 hours of supervised driving time with a licensed driver over the age of 21. These hours must be recorded and certified by a licensed notary public.

Applicants

Applicants must be 15.5 - 19 years of age AND possess a valid HI State Class III Instructional Permit to sign up for a driver education course.

Certificates of Completion

After passing both the classroom and BTW sessions, and submitting your notarized supervised driving log, you will be issued Certificates of Completion. Once you have your Certificates of Completion, you can then make an appointment with the Maui County Department of Motor Vehicles to take the Road Test.

Interest Form will open up around August. You will receive the application once classroom dates are determined. Interest Form




Selection

We will select 14 students using a lottery system if more sign up. If selected, you will need to pay a program fee of $10. This fee is non-refundable once the course begins.



Instructors

Hawaii Department of Education instructors are certified and have completed more than 100 hours of instruction which includes an entry assessment, student teaching practicum, and an exit assessment. You can learn more about their certification process by clicking here.
